Hamburg, NY April 21, 2017---Respected attorney and lifelong Hamburg resident, Jim Shaw, today announced his candidacy for Hamburg Town Supervisor. In making the announcement, Shaw spoke of his dedication to restoring community values.

“As someone who has lived and worked in Hamburg all my life, I care about the values that built this town and which I believe the people of our community have a right to expect. Specifically, people have a right to expect fairness and open communication in addressing town issues and solving resident problems. They have a right to expect a watchful eye on town expenses and a sharp focus on managing excess spending and surplus budget costs. They have a right to expect fair and open opportunities in town employment based on merit and competency not political connections or family ties. These are the values that founded, “The Town That Friendship Built,” the values I care about and the values I fully intend to restore to the office of Hamburg Town Supervisor.”

Shaw founded his Hamburg law firm in 1975. Since then he has successfully litigated 3,000 civil and criminal cases. He has served as Assistant District Attorney for Erie County, Legal Deputy County Clerk for Erie County, counsel to a variety of town, school and village boards. He also was elected as President of the Bar Association of Erie County. Currently retired, Shaw notes the timing of his candidacy as purposeful.

“I care about Hamburg as the community my family has called home now for four generations. That is why I have given almost 50 years of my time and talents to community causes and why the time seemed right to become a candidate for supervisor.  Running a town of the size and scope of Hamburg is a full-time, focused responsibility. At this point in my life I have the resources, energy and time to devote to those responsibilities. When elected, I intend to restore effective leadership to the supervisor’s office, thereby making a difference for all Hamburg families and generations to come.”

According to Shaw, he has requested the endorsement of the Hamburg Democratic Party but will also seek the support of affiliated political parties and organizations. “I have been a loyal Democrat for 45 years. However, I also know to effectively serve as a public official, I must work with all sides on every issue. That is why I encourage the support of my party, along with individuals and organizations that believe in and care about fair, honest and open government.
