Shaw Supports Schumer On Hamburg Breakwall Legislation

Yesterday, I attended a press conference held by New York Senator, Charles Schumer, on the shoreline of Lake Erie and just outside of Hoak’s Restaurant. Sen. Schumer specifically chose this location to highlight the rising level of Lake Erie and the associated problems that businesses, like Hoak’s, are facing because of the increased water levels.

The good news is that Sen. Schumer is currently working with the Buffalo District of the US Army Corps of Engineers to make it a priority to reinforce the lake breakwall along the Hamburg shoreline. When those breakwall plans are in place, Sen. Schumer will introduce legislation to secure the necessary funding for the work. According to the Senator, if his legislation makes it into the next federal budget, the funds for the breakwall could possibly be allocated before year’s end, helping to mitigate the damage that the high lake levels will cause along our town shoreline.

I was pleased to attend this press conference and add my support to Senator Schumer's much-needed breakwall reinforcement plan. When elected Hamburg Town Supervisor, I look forward to partnering with government officials, such as Senator Schumer, as part of my focus on protecting the businesses, merchants and natural resources that form the backbone of our community.
